Born and raised in Boonsboro, Maryland, saxophonist Chase Remsburg has performed at several notable venues including The Kennedy Center, The United States Air Force Band Collegiate Symposium, The Alba International Music Festival in Alba, Italy, Met Life Stadium, and the 39th and 40th International Saxophone Symposium hosted by the Navy Band. Before Chase began his music education degree at Shepherd University, he had the opportunity to open for various country artists at the Great Frederick Fair, such as Hunter Hayes, Trace Adkins, and Brad Paisley with his father’s band, The Shades. Even at the early age of 11, Chase was performing for audiences at local jazz band festivals as well as benefit concerts.
From a long lineage of saxophonist in the family, Chase was born with music in his blood. He grew up travelling with his father to local venues to listen to both his grandfather and dad playing their 50s, 60s, and 70s R&B music with The Shades. Starting with just a plastic saxophone and a dream to be like his dad, Chase slowly became known as the 3rd generation saxophonist in the family. Winning several superior ratings at county and state-wide solo and ensemble competitions as well as the Louis Armstrong Award for Jazz Excellence, his original musical hobby began to shape into his future musical career.
After high school graduation, Chase went to Hagerstown Community College for a year in pursuit of a degree in Landscape Architecture. Quickly learning that music was his true calling, he transferred to Shepherd University the following year, which is where his career skyrocketed. After only his first year at Shepherd, Chase became the principal saxophonist in the Wind Ensemble, lead alto in the Jazz Ensemble, soprano saxophone player for the saxophone quartet, and the field commander for the Shepherd University Ram Band. Outside of the music department at Shepherd, Chase began participating in local pit productions including The Little Mermaid, Guys and Dolls, Seussical, 1940's Radio Hour, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
After graduation in 2018, he began working in the Washington County Public School system, in Maryland, as an orchestra director for the Smithsburg Area Schools. During his five years as orchestra director, he earned his Master's Degree from the online music education program at the University of Florida. Although Chase works hard in his teaching career, he still finds time to dedicate to his beautiful wife, Mary Remsburg, and their dog, Chewy. Mary and Chase have performed piano and saxophone duos together at venues including the Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD, the Botanical Gardens in Knoxville, TN, and the Cress Creek Private Golf Course in Shepherdstown, WV. Chase is currently enrolled at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University pursuing his PhD in music education.
